Summary:

Psychological case evaluation is a study depending on facial expression recognition. On account of a ability of facial expression recognition , there are individual differences even in between people. Therefore, the ability of facial expression recognition is a measurable variable. In this study, psychological case evaluation with computer has been verified. With this aim, first of all , face detection has been implemented by using skin detection and artificial neural networks. On the second stage face sample, features had been extracted and then as a result of features classification, recognition process has been implemented. For

feature extraction on detected faces, Local Binary Patterns(LBP) approach has been used and in this way, major micro patterns belonging to face have been described. After that, classification has been implemented on the extracted features and thus, recognition process has been completed. For classifying features, template matching based classifiers and artificial neural networks have been used.

In the study, five different facial expressions have been observed which are Smile, Neutral, Sad, Surprised and Angry and also the smile fact has been tried to be recognized by separating into two sub classes which are laughing and smiling.

To confirm system truth, a pscychological case evaluation database has been formed which was evaluated by people and from these experimental results, similarity between systems results and people has been seen.
