Summary:

      Accidents occurring in tunnels by usage of vehicles in these environments can cause serious problems. Detecting incidents which may cause accidents can prevent loss of lives and properties. Accidents occurring in motorway tunnels may be more harmful when they are compared to the ones in highways. Especially effects of fire starting in tunnels following accidents are serious.

In our work, it is aimed that developing a system which can detect incidents automatically. For automatically detecting incidents, a vehicle tracking approach is proposed. Algorithms such as point detectors, segmentation and background modeling are used in order to achieve object detection task. Various object tracking methods are applied on the moving objects which are detected in previous steps.

      In case of applying an automatic incident detection system to real world, it is estimated that accidents occurring in tunnels will decrease. By making a literature review presence of such systems are seen. With help of these works in literature, developing a more effective system is aimed.
