Summary:

Based on colony morphology, nine different isolates from Diyadin hot spring, two from Gonen hot spring and six from Kestanbol hot spring were selected and subjected to further tests. The isolates were examined based on morphological, physiological, biochemical, some genetical, chemotaxonomical features and DNA-DNA homology. The isolates, as results of the study, were placed into the genus Bacillus or the genus separated from the genus Bacillus recently. One of the isolates belonging to Anoxybacillus genus from Gonen hot spring was a new species designated as Anoxybacillus gonensis and six of the isolates from Diyadin hot spring were the strains of it. Tree isolates belonging to Anoxybacillus genus from Kestanbol hot spring were new species designated as Anoxybacillus kestanbolinensis and its strains. Moreover, the other three isolates from Diyadin hot spring were Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus thermosphericus and Anoxybacillus pushchinoensis. Two isolates from Kestanbol hot spring belonged to Bacillus thermosphericus, another belonged to Saccharococcus caldoxylosilyticus. And another isolate from Gonen hot spring belonged to Bacillus thermoleovarans. We found that A. gonensis had high xylose isomerase activity. and also determined the partial DNA polymerase gene sequence of S. caldoxylosilyticus obtained from Kestanbol hot spring.

We suggest that new thermophilic species and strains described in this study may have some biotechnological potential and other hot springs of Turkey may have similar new species and strains.
