Summary:

Cucurbita pepo L. is an economically important species of squash in Turkey. In this study, by adding different concentration (25-100mM) of NaCI into hoagland solution, water potantial, antioxidant enzyme activities, pigments, ABA and sugar content of Cucurbita pepo L. seedlings which were pretreated with 0,5mM salicylic acid were comparatively investigate. As a result, the root lenght, wet leaf weight and using hoagland of C. pepo L. which were exposed to salt stress decreased compared to the control seedlings. In the all salt concentration, pretreatment of salicylic acid caused to yellow leaf of seedlings. Only in 100mM salt concentration, increasing of root lenght and wet leaf weight were determined. Also, pretreatment of SA showed to limit using of hoagland. In some salt concentration, increasing of total chlorophyll content and chla/b rate were determined. In the concentrations which cause to increase total chlorophyll content, pretreatment of SA decreased them, but SA increased them in the other concentration. Additionally, treatment of SA and salt showed reverse effect on total chlorophyll content, water potential, enzymes activity, ABA and sugar content. Consequently, SA is effective in salt concentration which is not tolerated of seedlings.
