Summary:

The tribe Cichorieae belonging to the family Asteraceae includes 100 genera in the world and it is represented by 35 genera in Turkey. One of the genera is Crepis L., including 42 taxa in Turkey. In the present study, achene anatomy of 11 taxa belonging to the genera were examined in detail. The plant materials used in this study were collected from several geographical regions in Turkey between the years of 2011-2013 in May and August. For anatomical examinations, transverse sections were obtained using by a microtome from mature achenes and stained with hematoxylin before being mounting in Entellan. Photographs of the well-stained permanent slides were taken by using a light microscope. Measurements were made on determined anatomical characters and the achene anatomy of taxa were compared. Among the studied taxa, number of achene rib, width and thickness of pericarp, thickness of endosperm and seed coat, distribution of parenchyma and scleranchyma cells and epicarpic structures differed. Furthermore, the same characters differed not only in the central but also in the peripheral achenes. Consequently, the present findings were found noteworthy in terms of taxonomical point of view.
