INVESTIGATION OF ANTIVIRAL, ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTIBIOFILM ACTIVITIES OF VIOLACEIN PIGMENTS FROM Jantinobacterium sp.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the antimicrobial, antiviral and biofilm formation inhibition effects of Violacein pigments crude extracts, which is the natural metabolite of Jantinobacterium sp. GMG-1 and Jantinobacterium sp. GK. For this purpose, CLSI (Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute) microdilution method was used for antimicrobial analyses, while HIV-1 RT inhibition and SARS-CoV 2 Spike S1: ACE2 Biotin inhibition kits were used for antiviral analyses. In addition, the Gram positive bacteria Enterococcus faecalis 74, E. faecalis 29212 and E. faecalis OG1RF strains were used to investigate the inhibition of biofilm formation. GMG-1 and GK crude Violacein extracts, pure Violacein and Deoxyviolacein in the concentration ranges of 0.8 mg/ml - 0.1 mg/ml, 2-0.05 Mm, 1.5-0.5 mM respectively, caused concentration dependent increase in inhibition on HIV-1 RT and Spike S1: ACE2. Also, it was observed that GMG-1 and GK crude violacein extracts (0.8-0.1 mg/ml) inhibited biofilm formation of E. faecalis depending on the dose increase. In conclusion, this study suggests that Violacein obtained from GMG-1 and GK strains of Jantinobacterium has antimicrobial and antiviral activity and prevents biofilm formation.
