Summary: In this study, removal of chromium ions from aqueous solutions using a waste material-hazelnut shell has been investigated. Hazelnut shell has been used as an adsorbent instead of activated carbon. Any thermal or chemical activation method has been used unless for drying. In experimantal studies potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) was used as a source of chromium ions. Standard H2SO4 and NaOH were used for pH adjustment. In batch sorption tests were conducted in changing adsorbent concentration, pH, reaction time and pollutent concentrations. The results give a very high treatment performance and a good relationship with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The effect of solution pH and pollutant concentration on the treatment performance has been investigated. Optimum pH was 2 and treatment efficiency increased with pollutant concentration.
