Summary:

      The purpose of this study was to analyze the size of hardware equipments failures experienced on tanker type vessels. For this purpose, 30 hardware failures frequently experienced in tanker type vessels have been considered and it has been determined where they live. Later on, these equipment, which are experiencing problems, were assigned as sub-criteria of the neighborhoods and a hierarchical structure was established. This hierarchical structure; the main criteria, the sub-criteria, and the consequential losses. Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP) method was applied in the solution phase of the problem. 1 academician-captain and 5 company top managers captains and chief engineer views were utilized for the evaluation of the criteria. Criteria were compared with each other by binary comparison technique according to Fuzzy AHP importance scale. The most important equipments of tanker type vessels are ship propulsion systems and cargo handling equipment. Economic losses (29.6%), time loss (27.6%) and additional labor force requirement (24%) are the most important losses due to the problems to be experienced in these equipments.
