Summary:

Wind, solar and the other energy sources have very complex structure when they are exploited simultaneously compared to when those are used individually. In such systems, when more than one energy sources are used concurrently some problems may be experienced in transforming the produced energy into another form and storing it.

Power electronic circuits are implemented to use and store the electrical energy generated from the wind and solar energy. The amplitude of switching frequencies in these circuits both complicates the control of the system and give rise to switching losses. In order to simplify the control of the system, it is necessary to use DSP based PI, Sliding Mode, and Fuzzy Logic control methods. Another method to reduce the switching losses is parallel connection. Nevertheless, the control gets difficult in this situation. It has been considered to store and use the energy in super capacitors instead of conventional methods.

In this dissertation study, a system that converts the sunlight and wind to electrical energy and store was devised and realized. Deviations from required voltage level were taken into account, and the studies were focused on buck boost converter and their parallel connection and controlling of the system. In addition, current and voltage measurement circuits for DSP, MOSFET driver circuit, and a parallel connected buck-boost converter that works at optimum performance were realized.

Key Words: Hybrid energy system, Buck-Boost converter, Parallelization and current sharing, Fuzzy control, Proportional integrated control, Sliding mode control.
