Summary:

Shaded-pole induction motors are widely used in drive systems requiring low power, although they have low starting torque and low efficiency.

The application areas of the shaded-pole induction motors can be expanded, if they are provided with the possibility of increased starting torque, speed control and reversible rotation of the rotor.

In this thesis, increased starting torque, speed control and reversible rotation of single phase shaded-pole induction motor is studied by using a winding instead of the short-circuited ring. The motor is a controlled using an electronic drive circuit along with a microcontroller.

In order to investigate the operating conditions of the shaded pole induction motor mentioned above a phase shifting process is applied using microcontroller and electronic driver circuit. Dynamic behavior of the shaded-pole motor is also investigated by simulating the motor model in a environment. The experimental and simulation results obtained have been compared to validate the proposed method.
