Summary:

Programmable logic controllers are industrially-hardened computers. PLCs were developed to be able to respond to the changes required by applications by reprogramming with their ability without the need of physical hardware changes. The programmable logic controllers, since its development in the early 1970s, has become an integral part of the automation of control systems and process control in industrial applications. PLCs have evolved to successfully challenge not only relays but also discrete control devices. PLCs have been successfully used to replace solid state logic, analog controllers, and even microcomputers. Their capabilities are rapidly expanding. New, innovative ideas are appearing on almost monthly basis. The need for training in PLC applications is increasing at all levels which are in technical high schools, universities and industry. The purpose of this thesis is to provide information PLC training for all levels. Plc systems and relay systems have been compared in this study for automation systems.
