Summary: Energy requirement has been increasing rapidly every year due to technological development and population increase. Limited energy sources and high energy conversion cost have increased importance of efficient of the sources. Therefore how much energy converting machines cause energy losses should be investigated. Use of hydro turbines increased in 70’s in the world. There are more than 50 hydro turbines which are at least 30 years in use Turkey. State of art hydro turbines have 3%-5% more efficiency than the hydro turbines manufactured 30 years ago. Additional losses may occur due to cavitations and increasing labyrinth clearances. Turbine efficiency should be measured in order to decide runner replacement to find efficiency losses, energy cost.In this study efficiency measurement methods at hydro power plant which produce energy from the potential energy of water have been investigated and turbine efficiencymeasurement in a power plant has been evaluated.
