Summary:

In order to protect the staff in high voltage electric plants from dangerous contact and step voltages, basic principles which are taken into account for the grounding of these plants are examined in detail according to IEEE 80-2000 standard. In this working, concepts of grounding electrode, step and touch voltages; and permissible voltage uses in the grounding system are clarified. Also, the steps to be followed in grounding projects and methods of measuring grounding resistance are discussed.Consequently, the grounding resistance, touch and step voltages of high voltage plant are calculated and garph analyzed by means of developed MATLAB programming. It has been aimed that step and touch voltage must be in permissible voltage limits with developed programming while in instituting the grounding grid of a substation.
