Summary:

Due to techonological developments the use of electrical devices has been increased last decades resulting in a high power demand in power industry. Besides the environmental facts and the concenrs on the limited amount of the conventional energy sources have pushed the researches to study and work on alternative energy sources such as renewable sources.

Solar energy and photovoltaic (PV) solar cells are one of the candidates to be used as a renewable alternative energy source. Hydrojen Fuel Cells (HFC) are concidered as another alternative energy source lately. Although it is not as popular as PV solar or wind energy it is assumed to be one of the promising energy sources in future. Therefore both PV solar and hydrogen fuell cells are studied in this thesis as the renewable green energy sources.

A hybrid green power generated systems consisting of both PV and HFC is designed and used to supply power to various type loads. In order to stabilize voltage magnitude and keep the power quality in standardized limits, a switced power filter (SPF) is proposed and controlled using a modified fuzzy logic controller (FLC). A three-loop dynamic error summer is also modified for the control algorithm here and used to include the effects of the changes in sunlight, temperature and also loads.

The results obtained from the proposed SPF and modified FLC are compared for those of obtained from conventional compansator such as Static Compensator (STATCOM) and Tyristor Controlled Series Capasitor (TCSC). All SPF, STATCOM and TCSC are controlled with FLC and classic PI controllers and simulation studies are carried out in Matlab/Simulink/Simpower environment for model and system validation.
