Summary:

In this thesis, modeling of a grid-connected hybrid power system consisting of photovoltaic panel and permanent magnet synchronous generator based wind turbine sources has been studied. In the hybrid energy system, it is necessary to use the boost converter to keep DC bus voltage constant at which solar and the wind energy connected in common. It is great important to control these converters for varying solar radiation, temperature and wind speed values. For this purpose, several simulations have been done using different control methods to determine most effective one.

Under the changing solar radiation and temperature conditions, the simulation results of the fuzzy logic and the incremental conductance methods for the solar energy system were compared. It was observed that the fuzzy logic-based controller could tracking the maximum power point more efficiently.

Also, under the variable wind speed conditions, the simulation results of the fuzzy logic and perturb-observe methods for the wind energy system were compared, it was observed that the fuzzy logic based controller could tracking the maximum power point at higher values.

The hybrid system which consists of a wind and a solar energy system has been connected on a common DC bus and it has been seen that the system to be able to work with the grid.

The fuzzy logic based MPPT was implemented using a boost converter designed for both solar and wind energy. The grid-connected hybrid system is modeled in Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results prove the validity of the control method used in the system.
