Summary:

The EMG signal is the process of measuring the electrical activation resulting from

muscles contraction.

In this study, real-time wireless transmission of surface EMG signals obtained from

the muscles around the eyelids (orbicularis oculi) during voluntary blinking movements was

performed and the automatic detection of winking action in the receiving unit was performed

by using the signals obtained from the left eye and right eye. The automatic classification of

the data according to the specified features was performed. Thus, it is aimed for automatic

detection of which of the left or right eye is active. Wireless transmission is preferred because

it is possible to monitor EMG activity with a portable unit.

In addition, while the general application of surface EMG measurement was the use

of one electrode group for each muscle tissue where the signal would be obtained, this study

aimed to obtain separate signals from the muscles around the left and right eyelids using

only a single electrode group. With the system and software realized, right and left winking

actions can be detected successfully from single-channel signals.
