Summary:

Todays technology is developing day by day to make our lives easier. One of the

important areas where technological developments take place is the converters that can

transfer power. Converters are frequently used in many important fields of activity such as

electric vehicles, integration of renewable energy sources into the grid and energy storage

systems. Since the bi-directional dual active bridge direct current converter is bidirectional

due to its structure, it has advantages over other converters with similar content in many

different areas such as the area it occupies, high power flow efficiency and reliability.

Therefore, in this thesis, the basic working principle of the converter and studies on

theoretical calculations have been carried out. As a result of the studies, in order to determine

the best control method for the converter, a comparative evaluation has been made with the

classical PI control and model predictive control with coefficients optimised fractional PI

control and coefficients optimised classical PI control. The parameters to be used in the

controllers were determined by the mayfly optimisation algorithm. Looking at the results,

the lowest values for settling time and output voltage overshoot to reference are obtained

with the optimised fractional PI controller. The design of the converter and the controller to

be applied to the converter was carried out in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
