Summary:

This study was performed to determine seasonal variation of indoor radon concentrations in dwellings and radioactivity soil of the Erzincan.

Indoor radon studies were conducted in Erzincan, using SSNTD type nuclear track detector (CR-39). Radon measurements were done for 4 seasons in 84 dwellings in Erzincan, selected as uniformly distributed on the surface area as possible. The radon concentrations varies from 4.87 Bq/m3 to 767.375 Bq/m3 with the annual mean concentration of 91 Bq/m3 for Erzincan. Radon concentrations were recorded high in winter and low in autumn and summer for Erzincan. The resulting estimated annual effective dose-equivalent due to inhalation of radon for inhabitants is 2.29 mSv/y for Erzincan. The average activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, 137Cs and 40K were found to be 51,90 Bq/kg, 26,24 Bq/kg, 9,10 Bq/kg and 648,96 Bq/kg for Erzincan. The mean value of total annual external gamma radiation dose equivalent for natural radionuclides was calculated to be 82,28 µSv/y for Erzincan.
