Summary:

In recent years, the aim of reducing emissions of waste gases in the maritime sector and the increasing trend towards renewable energy methods have made the cylindrical rotor system attractive because it is an operable alternative auxiliary propulsion system.

The main purpose of this study is to help to establish the sufficient scientific infrastructure for the development of cylindrical rotors. The study in this thesis consists of 3 basic parts. The study was done with Computational Fluids Dynamic analysis (CFD). First, the driving forces of the cylindrical rotor subjected to the performance analysis on the determined route were calculated, and the velocity of rotor ship and velocity of non-rotor ship were found and the navigation durations to the arrival point were compared. As a result, it has been seen that the rotor ship has reached the destination point in a shorter time than the non-rotor ship. In the second part, the relation between the roll motion of the ship and cylindrical rotors is examined. It has been observed that the driving force performances of cylindrical rotors decrease in the case of roll motion. In the last part of the study, the effect of multiple cylindrical rotors which are located on the deck is examined. The results obtained here is that the performance of generating the driving force of the cylindrical rotor which is in the area that can be characterized as the wake area can be greatly reduced.
