Summary:

In this thesis, the dynamic behavior of reinforced concrete buildings repaired and strengthened by fiber reinforced polymer composite materials has been investigated using experimental and analytical methods. For this aim, the experimental and analytical studies have been carried out on the scaled reinforced concrete buildings constructed under laboratory condition. This thesis consists of three main parts. In the first part; the general information and literature studies related to the topic, background of the experimental and analytical methods and the formulations of these methods have been presented. In the second part; studies and obtained findings from these studies have been presented. The second part of the thesis is divided into two subsections. In the first subsection; the dynamic behavior of the laboratory-scaled reinforced concrete buildings for the undamaged, damaged, repaired, and strengthened conditions have been determined using experimental methods and the obtained results for each condition have been compared. In the second subsection; 3D finite element model of the buildings for the undamaged, repaired, and strengthened conditions have been modeled to obtain the dynamic behavior analytically and finite element model of the buildings have been calibrated according to the experimental measurement results. In addition, the nonlinear dynamic behaviors for the undamaged, repaired, and strengthened models have been performed using initial and calibrated finite element model of the buildings. The third part is devoted to conclusions and suggestions relating to the thesis study. Lastly, references and autobiography have been presented. At the end of the study, it is found that the repairing method and strengthening method using fiber reinforced polymer composite materials are significantly effective in restoring the dynamic behavior of the reinforced concrete buildings.
