Summary:

In this thesis, it is aimed to determine the dynamic characteristics of a multi storey reinforced concrete building by Operational Modal Analysis and Finite Element Methods, and investigate the earthquake behavior of the building with and without base isolator, under near and far fault ground motions. The presented thesis consists of mainly three chapters. In the first chapter, the studies performed on this subject are mentioned and the formulations of theoretical and experimental methods which are used are given. In the second chapter, the creation of the finite element model of the selected building, the determination of experimental and theoretical dynamic characteristics and the updating of the initial analytical model are presented. In addition, the changes in the structural behavior of the building with and without isolator are also investigated under near and far fault earthquake motions. In the third chapter, the results of the study and suggestions are presented. The third chapter is followed by the references used in this thesis. As a result, Operational Modal Analysis Method can be used safely to determine the dynamic characteristics of reinforced concrete multi story buildings and to update of the finite element models. Besides, the near-fault earthquake effects should be taken into account in the design of multi storey buildings with and without isolator.
