| Summary: In this study, the effect of offshore breakwaters on coastal variation is studied. Two offshore breakwaters were constructed on Samsun Derekoy coasts, which were the first offshore breakwaters in Turkey. One-yearly field observations were carried out around their coastal area and the bathymetric variation were measured. The study comprises five chapters.In the first chapter, the scope of the study is introduced and a literature review is presented. The performed observation studies are given in the second chapter.In the third chapter, the results of the field study are given. The conclusions and recommendations are presented in the fourth and fifth chapters, respectively.Key Words: Coastal Protection, Offshore Breakwaters, Coastal Accretion, Erosion
