Summary:

Selection of structural forms of reinforced concrete structures is especially important since these stuructures must have desired safety under horizontal loads besides vertical loads.

The aim of this study is to investigate the linear and nonlinear behaviours of frame structures stiffened with different types of bracing members and shear walls, and to compare the results of stiffened frame with each other and with these of moment-resisting frames. These comparisons are made separately for the load factor, equivalent stress and equivalent displacement for the frames considered in this study. The study has four main chapters. In the first chapter, general information about structural forms, previous studies made, and nonlinearty are presented. In the second chapter, information about frame structure models used in the study are given. In the third chapter, the results obtained from the study is presented in the forms of tables and graphs and then discussed. In the fourth chapter, the conclusions drawn from the study and some suggestion are presented. This chapter is followed by a list of references.

As a results, it is concluded that the behavior of the frame structures stiffened with different types of stiffening members are better than that of moment-resisting frame from characteristics considered point of view and nonlinear analysis of sturctures is safer and more realistic than linear analysis.
