Summary: Energy demand has quickly increased in Turkey and World because of growing of the population, industrialization, technological, social and economical developments. Tomeet this increasing demand, Turkey and the other countries, which have water potential, give important into generation of hydroelectric energy, as a clean and renewable energysource. In this study, status of energy resources in the world, European Union, and Turkey isanalyzed; production of total electricity and hydroelectric energy are predicted by using the data from 1970 to 2004 for Turkey and from 1980 to 2004 for world and European Union. The study comprises seven chapters. In the first chapter, potential and status of production and consumption of fossil and renewable energy resources in the world andTurkey are analyzed. In the second chapter, projections of total electricity energy and hydroelectric energy generation for the world, European Union, and Turkey are carriedout. In the third chapter, the results obtained from projections and trends of these results are given. In the fourth chapter, the ratios of hydroelectric energy generation for the world,European Union, and Turkey within the total electricity energy generation is determined. In this chapter, probable meeting capacity of Turkey’s hydroelectric potential of its futuretotal demand is also studied. In the fifth chapter, conclusions of this study are given. In the sixth and seventh chapters, recommendations and literatures are presented. In this study, it is concluded that total electricity and hydroelectric energy productions for the world, European Union, and Turkey will increase, but ratio ofhydroelectric energy production within total electricity energy generation will decrease. It is also determined that, the ratio of hydroelectric production to total electric energy inTurkey will be larger than that of World and European Union.
