Title of the Thesis: FAULTS MADE IN PROJECT AND CONSTRUCTION STAGES OF BUILDINGS CONSTRUCTED IN ANKARA (ETİMESGUT SİNCAN) AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE CODE 2007
Level: M.Sc.
Acceptance Date: 8/10/2008

Summary:

Area and population of Turkey which is situated on an important fault are on earthquake

zone. Therefore, the earthquake resistant structural design is being very important day by day.

The upsetting memories are adequate by themselves to understand the importance of the

earthquake. The earthquakes occurred in the near past taught the people to live together with

the earthquakes and to construct their buildings to resist against earthquake.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the faults made in project and construction

stages of buildings constructed in Ankara after the Earthquake Code-2007, to observe that

there are any lessons learned from the past earthquakes. For this purpose, questionnaires are

used, and sufficient number of building is investigated.

This study consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, general information about

earthquake and its parameters, earthquake resistant structural design, general rules that should

be considered in the architectural project, structural forms, members of the structural forms,

faults made in project and construction stages of buildings, and the aim and scope of the study

are presented. In the second chapter, the sufficient number of buildings constructed in the city

of Ankara after March 06, 2007 is investigated in terms of the minimum and maximum

conditions of the Turkish Earthquake Code-2007, and TS 500. In the third chapter, the

conclusions drawn from the results are given and some recommendations are made. This

chapter is followed by the list of references.

It is concluded that the lessons learned from the past earthquake is not enough, and that

there is not an efficient control mechanism in construction stages of the buildings, and that the

necessary care in the construction stage of the buildings is not shown.

Key Words: Project Stage, Construction Stage, Faults, Earthquake Resistant Design, the
