Summary:

Studies about cold-formed steel profiles for construction is known to embark firstly after the WWII among countries such as USA, Japan, Germany and Scandinavian countries. Besides conventional steel profiles, light gauge steel profiles are spreadingly used in construction and other fields as well. Light gauge steel profiles are firstly used in Germany after 1950s and it has taken a thiry-year of experience to introduce the system of light gauge steel frame to be successful. These cold formed steel profiles used abundantly in developed countries are started to be used in our country in last decades and using these, mostly, low-rise buildings such as houses (one or two floors) are built and it brings in an allaround income.

The primary aim of the study is to introduce cold formed steel profiles and the buildings which are designed with them, then compare the results by making axial loading experiments on vertical structural members.

The study involves four chapters. First chapter informs about the general idea of the study and involves introduction, the aim and scope of the study and gives brief information about light gauge steel structures, in addition summarizes the published studies. Second chapter tells about the axial loading experiments carried on built-up members which are made with cold formed steel and then results of these. All findings and results are put forward in the third chapter. Lastly in the fourth chapter there is works cited page.

Finally, results gained at the end of the study reveals that the design of built-up members which are made with cold formed steel profiles are suitable for low-rise buildings.
