Summary:

      Particles moves down in the water due to the gravity if their density is greater than the water. This is named as ‘precipitation’. Precipitation tanks in diriking water treatment plant are used to reduce the amount of solid particles in water.

In this thesis, İller Bank’s final project which was confirmed in 2007 ‘Derecik, Yıldızlı, Akçaköy, Söğütlü (Trabzon) Diriking Water Treatment Plants have been handled as the prototype and the model used in study was prepeared in the scale of 1/20 of plexiglas.

      There are two event in the study. One of them is Model for laboratory studies and the other one is prototype for real area. Because of the clear flow in Model Pool , Froude number was used for the calculations.

To prepare the experimental setup, it is necessary to circulate the water, consistently. So, necessary studies were done in the laboratory of ‘Trabzon Atasu Dirinking Water Treatment Plant’. Firstly, data of raw water are observed. Water of Değirmendere is not dirty water because of not containing chemical welfares. But sometimes it becomes really cloudily due to the season change. To draw the cloud to the normal values, Pac and Al(SO4)3 were added to precipitate the solid particles. Limpid water values are obtained from the model and pool of service area are examined.

      The purpose of this study is to determine the amount of the contribution of the Model Pool to the sedimentation with the studies in the laboratory by creating the model of the prototype model of sedimentation pool.
