Summary:

Behaviors of structures under dynamic loads such as earthquake vary depending on structural system. Therefore, it is very important to know the behaviors of structures having different structural systems and to select the structural system according to this behavior.

The aim of this study is to investigate earthquake behaviors of moment-resisting frames, braced frame with different configuration of bracings, and frames with shear wall according to Turkish and Iranian Earthquake Specifications and to compare these two specifications depending on the results obtained. For this purpose, reinforced concrete frame systems with four spans and five and ten stories are analyzed by using Turkish and Iranian Earthquake Specifications and then the results are compared.

In the first chapter, the rules used in the selection of earthquake resistant structural system, the main structural members and systems, and the design of buildings according to the Equivalent Earthquake Load Method are presented. In the second chapter, the systems are analyzed according to Turkish and Iranian Earthquake Specifications and the results are comparatively presented in tabular and graphical forms. In the third chapter, the conclusions drawn from the results are given and some recommendations are made. This chapter is followed by the list of references.

It is concluded that the results obtained according to Turkish Earthquake Specification are larger than those obtained according to Iranian Earthquake Specification because of requirements of several parameters larger. It is also concluded that lateral displacements change considerably depending on the structural system and structure height.
