Summary:

Understanding of sediment movement in costal areas is very important in terms of stability of coastal structures, recovery of coast areas and formation of new coast. Accretion or erosion profiles, which are formed as a result of sediment movement, develop commonly according to bed slope, wave conditions and sediment properties.

In this study, horizontal distance from starting point of accretion zone to original shoreline, horizontal and vertical distance from crest point of accretion zone to original shoreline, width of accretion zone perpendicular to coast and volume of accretion zone were determined as parameters of accretion zone in coastal profile. For these determined parameters, physical model data was examined considering seven different wave heights and two different wave periods, four different bed slope, and three different sediment diameters. Regression analyses were made using of physical model data, than dimensional and non-dimensional equations were found for each parameter. The equations were compared to physical model data to determine the best equation for each accretion parameter. Also, effects of wave height and period, bed slope, and sediment diameter on accretion parameters were examined.

In consequence of this study, it was clearly understood that parameters of accretion zone was mostly affected from wave steepness and sediment diameter. Besides, if wave height and wave period increase, parameters of accretion zone generally increase. It was arrived to conclusion of the equations successfully determined parameters of accretion zone.
