| Summary: In the large and medium-sized cities of developed and developing countries in the world, traffic problem is increasing day by day. In our country, factors such as the problem of population growth, increased demand for private vehicles, false steps in the use of urban land, lack of desired level of public transport systems lead the problem growing even more. In this study, the emerging problems of inner-city traffic in particular Trabzon city, were investigated in detail, the causes of defects were probed, a questionnaire study was conducted and contemporary approaches to these problems were investigated.In the introductory part of the study, the historical development of urban planning approaches, various aspects of the traffic problems and studies can be done towards solutions are discussed . In the second section, the general structure of the historic city Trabzon was examined. Problems that prevent traffic flow and threaten the safety of traffic were introduced. The structure of the demand for the center, reasons of the preference for private vehicle and conditions of transferring preferences to public transport were analyzed.In the last section that is conclusions and recommendations; economic, practical, systematic and sustainable solutions are presented to shortcomings mentioned as a problem in the previous sections by taking into consideration the data obtained in the survey study.
