Summary:

In this study, developing a natural frequency formula for Post Tensioned Balanced Cantilever Bridges by using Ambient Vibration Tests and Finite Element Analyses results is intended. For this purpose, experimental and analytical studies are performed on five bridges which were constructed by Balanced Cantilever method. Operational Modal Analysis and Finite Element Methods are used in the experimental and analytical studies, respectively. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter includes the previous studies on this subject, aim and content of thesis, construction stages of the balanced cantilever bridges and information about Operational Modal Analysis Method. In the second chapter, selected bridges are introduced briefly with their geometrical properties. Experimental dynamic characteristics of the bridges are determined by performing Ambient Vibration Tests. The analytical dynamic characteristics of bridges are obtained by the Finite Element Method. As a result of experimental and analytical studies, the most important parameters affecting the natural frequency of the bridges are determined as height and length of the bridge. The effects of these parameters to the dynamical response of the bridges are investigated on various bridge models, and a formula for natural frequency of post tensioned balanced cantilever bridges is suggested. In the third chapter, results and suggestions are presented. The last chapter consists of the references used in this study.
