Summary: The aim of seismic base isolation method is to decrease the earthquake forces transmitted from ground to the building by placing flexible energy-absorbing elements into the ground and the building foundations. The aim of this study is to construct earthquake resistant buildings using the seismic base isolation technique. To this aim, a three storey RC building was modelled and analyzed using equivalent earthquake force and mode superposition methods. The response of RC building considering base isolation was compared that of RC building not considering base isolation. As a result, it was determined that shear forces at each storey decrease in case of seismic isolation.
Key Words: Seismic isolation, Friction pendulum bearings, Earthquake resistant structure.
