Summary:

Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) is a chemical reaction that affects strength and duration of concrete negatively having very complex substance. It causes serious problems in reinforced concrete by creating cracks on concrete.

In this study, effects of mineral and chemical admixture on ASR are explored. ASTM C 1260 accelerated mortar bar test is done on aggregates taken from Harşit Valley located in east blacksea region which may cause ASR.

Test results indicate that aggregates are dangerous in terms of ASR. In order to prevent negative outcomes of ASR 5 different minerals and chemical admixtures (fly ash, silica fume, blast furnace slag, metakaolin and lithium carbonate) are applied together with cement in different ratios.
