Summary:

      Air void analysis on hardened concrete is determined according to ASTM C-457 and EN 480-11. According to methods defined in these standards, specimen analysis is carried out by a technical expert. Analyzing a specimen by an expert is performed in a long time such as average 2 days. When analyzing specimen, human-induced measurement errors is often made and this leads to undesirable results. Therefore, it is aimed to improve a faster and more accurate method in this study. Scanned concrete specimens by using a high resolution is transferred to computer, and air void analysis can be made after required image processing techniques are applied. In similar studies in the literature, it is proposed that analyses performed according to standard methods can be made by a scanner instead of a microscope. In this study, it is made areal analysis by using image analysis techniques instead of linear analysis in the standards. In order to prove the accuracy of the analysis, artificial air bubbles whose radius has log-normal distribution is placed in a 3-dimensional rectangular prism. 2-dimensional section surface is obtained by cutting from the center of this prism. In this study, air voids in the section surface is analyzed according to both linear traverse method defined in the standards and proposed method, and performance of the methods is measured by comparing obtained results with real air void ratio in the prism.
