Summary:

Recently, usage of different reference systems in various national and regional applications have led the ones need for different coordinat systems. Engineering applications depend on different coordinate systems need to be related to each other. GPS measurements are transformed into the national system and then can be integrated into the position data obtained by terrestrial measurements. In the literature, there are various geometric transformation methods to be able to transform among different coordinate systems. The transformation can be applied by defining the parameters which specify the relation between the coordinate systems. Transformation parameters are computed by getting benefit from the common points whose positions are known in both systems. Within the scope of this thesis, commonly used transformation methods are examined. 2-3 dimensional coordinate transformation methods, transformation between cartesian and geographic coordinate systems, zone transformations, transformation between geographic and projection coordinate systems, epoch shifts, calculation of velocity of a specific point using points whose coordinates and velocities are known, the transformation between orthometric and ellipsoidal heights obtained by GPS are investigated in this study. In the literature review, it has been found out that some software packages which are capable of using some transformation models are available. Hence, it has clearly seen that the transformation models in this softwares are not investigated comprehensively. For this purpose, an efficient and user friendly Matlab GUI (Guide User Interface) tool is developed for wide variety of engineering applications. The developed program is compared with Netcad software and the capabilities of the program are tested.
