Summary: Nowadays, sea level changes are being investigated by many disciplines. In this study, sea level changes in Aegean Sea have been investigated by using copula functions which can show both linear and nonlinear relations and do not have some disadvantages of linear correlation methods. The relationship between sea level changes, sea surface temperatures and meteorological factors were investigated. In addition a new trend analysis method based on Archimedean copula functions is presented. The copula-based trend analysis was applied to sea level and sea surface temperature time series. Copula-based trends were compared with the regression analysis and the efficiency of the copula-based trend analysis was examined. Sea level data were obtained from tide gauges in the Aegean Sea belonging to Greece and Turkey. Sea surface temperature data are high resolution radiometer data provided by NASA. Meteorological data are provided by the General Directorate of Mapping Turkey. |
