Summary:

Environmental geophysics, is a newly developed area of the applied geophysics and investigates shallow subsurface of the earth. Environmental geophysics includes detection of groundwater levels and water leakage, mapping of contaminant plumes, locating buried artefacts such as old fuel drums, storage tanks, metal waste, mapping of landfill sites, mapping of pipelines conduits and wiring, cavity detection, radioactive waste location, identificition of unexploded ordnance, assesment of potential hazardous waste disposal sites, acid drainage risk assesment and archaeological investigations.

Mapping of the bedrock topography is important and may related to most of the environmental problems. In this study analog tank modelling technique is used to investigate various electrode arrays over burried slope topography, burried valley, burried mound and burried undulated topography.

All the data obtained in the labarotuary and the field are interpreted by Loke’s RES2DINV programme.

Finally, sensitivity to bedrock topography is determined for the various electrode array that are commonly used in the field survey.
