Summary:

In this study, the efficiencies of monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules at different illumination intensities and cell temperatures were investigated and cell parameters were determined for each operating condition. Besides the energy and power conversion efficiencies which are widely used as performance evaluation criteria for photovoltaic systems, a novel exergy efficiency which includes the total irreversibilities in the energy conversion process was defined. The results showed that current parameters of the photovoltaic modules are completely the function of the illumination intensity while the voltage parameters are dramatically affected by the cell temperature. It was observed that illumination intensity and cell temperature were the effective parameters on the efficiency rates of the photovoltaic modules. Furthermore, with the outdoor experiments which were carried out for different relative humidity concentrations, it was examined whether the current parameters of the photovoltaic modules are affected by the relative humidity or not.
