Summary: In this study, the water soluble cross-linked cationic polymers were synthesized with dispersion polymerzatin method and their applications were investigated. Acrylamide (Am)The performances of some synthesized polymers in papermaking applications were investigated and results were compared with performances of poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride (P-DADMAC) and cationic polyacrylamide (KPAM). It was determined that P-31 and P-36 were better than P-DADMAC in kaolin retention and drainage of fiber-kaolin suspension. However, KPAM gave better results than all polymers. The synthesized polymerswere found to be effective in fixating the dissolved and colloidal materials onto fibers. QCMD results showed that these polymers formed thicker layer onto SiO2 surfaces. Thus, larger amount of dissolved and colloidal materials adsorbed on polymeric layer. Additionally, the effects of polymers on strength of paper were examined and synthesized polymers gave betterpaper strength than KPAM. Consequently, the experiments showed that water soluble crosslinked polymers were synthesized simply with dispersion polymerization and had advantageous over the linear polymers.
