Summary:

      Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. causes significant damage on Pinus brutia Ten. In Turkey. Essential oils from five Pinus brutia resin infested by Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. and Asit-Pasta Tapping method resin were hydrodistilled in a Clevenger-type apparatus and analyzed by GC-MS in contention with insect. Fourty seven and fourty five components different terpenes were identified respectively in the samples from Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. and gum resin.

The relative amounts of the main components in the oils obtained from Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. resin and gum resin were found to be α-pinen % 20.2-19.7, trans-caryophyllen % 10.8-7.8, γ-terpinen % 10.1-10.2, β-pinen % 9.4-13.3, α-himachalen %7.3-0.5, terpinolen % 6.2-6.2, γ-muurolen % 3.2-0, Δ3-caren % 3.1-3.7, caryophyllen oxide % 1.9-1.5 and longifolen % 0.7- 9.9 respectively.

      The compounds found in the oil from Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. resin, whereas not found in the oil from gum resin were as fallows; 2-β-pinen % 0.4, myrcen % 2.2, 4,8-epoxy-p-menth-1-ene % 0.1, norinon % 0.4, thujen-2-one % 0.2, cis-pinocarveol % 1.9, p-menth-1-en-8-ol % 5.0, thymyl methyl ether % 5.3, Perillal % 0.7, spathulenol % 2.0, γ-muurolen % 3.2. however, The compounds found in the oil from gum resin but not found in the oil from Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. resin were as fallows; p-cymenen %1.6, Δ2-caren % 6.9, nopinon % 0.2, isopinocampheol % 4.6, carvacrol methyl ether % 0.4, cuminal % 0.4, α-amorphen % 0.2.
