Summary: In this study, an experimental centrifugal atomizer was designed and consructed. The apparatus has the principle of atomizing molten metal by pouring it on to the water cooled disc. Cooling of the disc was done from the opposite side and the cooling water was not in contact with liquid metal and the produced powders. Pure tin, lead, aluminium, zinc and aluminium alloy (AA2014) were used as raw materials to investigate the effects of parameters such as disc geometry, disc diameter, disc rotation velocity, super heat and flow rate of liquid metal on the mean diameter and yield rate of the powders. The effects of these parameters on cooling rate of produced AA2014 powders and ribbons were also investigated.
