Summary:

In this study, the general definition of hazelnut is given and hazelnut shell cracking method used in Turkish hazelnut industry have been investigated. It is known that there are some problems on the hazelnut kernel in this method.

We measure dimensions of hazelnut in the shell and hazelnut kernel for a number of cases. We drew the diagrams, and we also determined an appropriate cracking space for the hazelnuts which are selected in order to be cracked.

A new hazelnut shell cracking machine was designed and manufactured in laboratory. This machine was designed to crack hazelnut shells that in all possible sizes.
