Summary: A vortex tube separates pressure air into two air streams, one hot and one cold. In this thesis, experimental and theoretical studies on vortex tubes are carried out. A new configuration is designed for the entrance of the vortex tube where swirling flow or fluid is introduced to the vortex tube. Both the entrance of the vortex tube and some parameters sucuh as the tube length, the valf (barrier) geometry, optimization studies are made. Optimization studies are focused on the maximum temperature range. For the optimum geometry, pressure and temperature distribution at the wall are measured for various inlet pressures. In addition flow visualization has been made in order to get an insight about the flow inside. Temperatures has been varried with basicly mass flow. Experimental and theoretical sides show that results are the same. Performans of our vortex tube is better than tradiotional one.
