Summary:

In this thesis, it has been numerically analyzed that the re-formed diffusers which have higher air-distributive characteristics by addition of angled vertical fins. This type of diffuser is different from existing regular diffusers in market. The air provided by HVAC system has been distributed to the room with a constant velocity by a diffuser and it has been exhausted from a single air vent mounted bottom of the room. The distribution and velocity of the air and pressure drops in the diffuser has been determined by changing the vertical fin angle with ANSYS-Fluent software. In the study, the flow geometry has been designed in 3D by Solidworks 2011 software, firstly. Then, mesh study has been made by using ANSYS-Fluent. In the mesh study, a constantly developing solution consisting of tetra elements has been made. In the numerical analysis, the equations of conservation of mass, conservation of turbulence momentum, turbulence kinetic energy (k) and diffusion rate of the turbulence kinetic energy (ɛ) have been used in steady state conditions. In the numerical analysis, the effects of the vertical fin angle of the diffuser on air inlet velocity and pressure drops in the diffuser have been predicted. It has been obtained that the diffusers having the vertical fin angle of 45o-50o provide a well air distribution and air velocities for human comfort at indoor. In addition, it has been examined that the pressure drops considerably rise with the angles greater than 40o.
