Summary:

In this study, the commercially pure Ti (Grade 2) are processed via equal-channel angular extrusion/pressing (ECAE/P) method, which is one method of severe plastic deformation techniques, in different routes (Route-A, Route-Bc and Route-E) and passes. After ECAE processing, the changes occurring in the formability properties and the corrosion behavior of titanium were investigated. Erichsen formability test was performed on the samples that have been miniaturized for the determination of behavior. The change in corrosion behavior of titanium caused by the applied processing was determined by experiments carried out in the corrosion cell. In addition, the basic mechanical properties of titanium prior and after processing were also investigated. Furthermore, the changes in the microstructural properties were also investigated and correlated with mechanical behavior.

It is observed that the ECAE processing performed in different number of routes and passes significantly affected the formability of titanium. It is seen that the formability of titanium recovered and exhibited almost similar behavior compared with that of as-received one depending on processing parameters. During initial deformation, the formability decreased due to applied ECAE processing, and this behavior is getting better with further deformation especially in route Bc. Indeed, The EKAE processing via route Bc showed much more positive effect on the improvement of formability of UFG Ti as compared with other routes (Route-A and Route E). On the other hand, it was observed that the corrosion behavior of commercially pure titanium was also affected by multi-passed ECAE processing. It can be said that route-Bc increased the corrosion resistance of Ti with requiring less current draw and giving the corrosion potential.
