Summary:

This thesis consists of two main parts. In the first part, determination of the optimum production parameters of the lowest viscosity biodiesels, which can be produced with transesterification reaction from corn and hazelnut oils which can be considered as regional products, were aimed. For this purpose, parameters, which influence the transesterification reaction, such as catalyst concentration, reaction temperature and time and alcohol/oil molar ratio were varied within the range of 0,25-1,50, 40-70, 30-120 minutes, 3:1-12:1, respectively, and then the effects of these parametric changes on dynamic and kinematic viscosities of produced biodiesels were investigated.

In the second part, the blends were prepared by mixing commercial diesel fuel with the biodiesels both having the lowest viscosities and theoretical maximum methyl ester yield for each oil and catalyst type at different volume ratios (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20). Then, the dynamic and kinematic viscosities of these blends were measured at different temperatures (10, 20, 30 and 40). Also one- and two-dimensional functions were fitted to the measured values for variations of viscosities and densities of blends with respect to temperature and biodiesel fraction in the blends by using the least squares regression.
