Summary:

Problems arise from the installation of MEP installations during construction phase in buildings that have extensive MEP installations. The main reason for these problems is that the building, which is a physical and functional whole, is formed by independent and uncoordinated projects. The BIM method is an alternative way to solve such problems. In this study, the operating room department of a State Hospital, which was designed in 2 dimensions by traditional method, was used as a sample project. The projects of the operating room were modeled in 3D using Autodesk Revit program, and many conflicts were detected between the models with Autodesk Navisworks Manage program and arrangements were made for mechanical installations. In this study, the effect of BIM on the operation room mechanical installation design process by using 3D model creation, coordination and conflict analysis features were investigated and the results obtained were presented. With this study, it is concluded that the conflicts that may arise from the installation of mechanical installations in the construction phase can be solved with a collaborative approach in the design stage by BIM method. In addition, since the mechanical installation design is made with logical and geometric rules in the modeling program, it is concluded that the constructability of the installation can be controlled at the design phase. In addition, it is concluded that incomplete data may be generated for some calculations (such as pressure loss calculation) for mechanical installations in projects drawn in 2D by traditional method.
