Summary:

In many engineering applications such as welding, grinding and drilling, moving heat sources are experienced. If the heat sources is moving, a unsteady heat conduction problem in the material occurs. As a result of temperature distribution, thermal stresses occur in the material. Therefore, it is important to know the temperature distribution in the material. In this study, the unsteady temperature distribution in a plate due to moving heat source is investigated numerically. ANSYS package program was used to solve the three dimensional heat diffusion equation in the Cartesian coordinate system. In this study the effects of welding intensity (heat flux), welding velocity, welding radius on the temperature distribution in the plate is investigated. It is observed that the maximum temperature of the plate increases with the increasing welding intensity, decreasing the welding diameter and decreasing the welding velocity.
