Summary: In this study, Zn - (%85,90,95)Al and Zn-85Al-2Cu alloys containing high percentage of aluminum were produced by permanent mould casting. The microstructure and mechanical properties and fatigue behavior of the alloys were determined in detail. Among the binary Zn-Al alloys, the highest fatigue life was obtained from Zn-85Al alloy having the highest hardness and strength values and the lowest fatigue life was obtained from Zn-95Al alloy. In this study, it was also observed that 2% copper additive to Zn-85Al alloy significantly increased the hardness and strength values but did not provide the expected increase in fatigue life and fatigue strength value. Furthermore, it was determined that the fatigue cracks generally initiated at the porosities and propogated along the grain boundaries. As a result of the correlations, it was determined that the fatigue behavior of the alloys can be expressed by Basquin’s law.
