Summary:

This study mainly examines the effects of impact-sliding loading on the wear behavior of TiN-based (Titanium-Nitride) hard thin coatings applied to material surfaces for tribological purposes. By means of TiN-based coatings, it is aimed to improve the wear resistance of mechanical parts that expose to impact loads and thus to improve the production process by eliminating the wear-related problems in the relevant industry. Therefore, the research of the basic principles of tribology science is initially included. Thereafter, the wear behavior of mechanical parts under the influence of impact loads in the industrial applications and the wear mechanisms that occur under this effect are examined in accordance with the literature. For the purpose of the study, structural investigations and experimental studies of the coatings were carried out on 9 different DIN 1.2344 steel specimens coated with TiAlZrN deposited using high-power impulse closed unbalanced magnetron sputtering PVD technique. ‘Bias voltage’, ‘zirconium target current’ and ‘working pressure’ were determined as variable parameters in the deposition process of the specimens. The effect of variable parameters on the microstructural characteristic features of the coatings and therefore on the wear resistance was determined by ANOVA analysis method. New design innovative tribology tester which represents forging conditions is used for impact-sliding wear tests of forging die specimens. The structural properties of the specimens were evaluated by microhardness, nanohardness, adhesion strength, grain size, coating thickness, XRD and EDS analysis. By evaluating the findings, the wear test results and mechanisms observed on SEM images of the wear scars, it is aimed to determine the variable parameters that improve impact-sliding wear resistance of the specimens.
